Custom control panel overlays with graphics, windows, embossed keys, and hardware openings registered to your enclosure. Printing, die cutting, embossing, and lamination all happen in-house, with no tooling fee on our own equipment.
About control panel overlays
A control panel overlay is not a decal applied to a box. It is the printed layer of an assembly — bonded to a fabricated metal component, cut to clear the switches, displays, and connectors that pass through it, and registered so every legend lands beside the control it names.
That registration is the whole job. An overlay whose graphics are a millimetre out relative to the punched holes is scrap, however good the printing is. We fabricate the metal and print the overlay in the same building, against the same drawing, so the holes and the artwork are produced from one source of truth.

Construction options
Metal component with a flexible overlay
The most common build. An aluminum panel is punched and formed, and a printed polycarbonate or polyester overlay is laminated to it. The overlay carries the graphics; the metal carries the strength.
Surface-printed metalThe graphics are screen printed or etched directly onto the aluminum, with no flexible layer. Fewer parts, and the right answer where the panel is rugged rather than operator-intensive. See

Metalphoto® panels
Photo-sensitive imaging that produces durable panels lasting more than 25 years in harsh environments. Specified where the panel is exposed and the legends cannot be allowed to go.

Holes, cutouts, and fit
Parts are finished using standard or custom punch holes and shapes. In practice the panel drawing is where most of the project risk sits, so it is worth getting onto one drawing early.
Switch and control apertures
Cut to clear the hardware you are fitting, including the flats and anti-rotation features many switches need.
Display and gauge windows
Cut to the bezel, with the overlay window aligned to the metal aperture beneath it.
Connector and cable openings
Positioned to your drawing, including openings on formed returns and flanges.

Formed edges and returns
Press brake bending to specification, so the panel fits the enclosure rather than needing a bracket to make up the difference.
Control panel durability
A control panel takes more physical contact than anything else on the machine. Gloved hands, cleaning agents, sunlight through a cab window, and years of repeated pressing all land on the same few square inches.
Sub-surface printing
Graphics printed on the underside of a clear substrate, so the material protects them and nothing abrasive touches the ink. The single biggest durability decision, and usually free.
Scratch-resistant hardcoats
Clear gloss and clear matte scratch-resistant polycarbonate for keypads and heavy-touch faces.
Velvet and matte finishes
Cut glare so legends stay readable in a cab or outdoors under overhead light.

Adhesive selection
Matched to the panel material and finish, including low-surface-energy options for powder-coated surfaces.
Overlay and panel materials
Polycarbonate — .005″–.125″
Clear gloss, scratch-resistant gloss and matte, velvet gloss, velvet matte, velvet UV resistant, suede, and brushed. The standard overlay substrate.
Polyester — .002″–.010″
Clear marnot, chrome finishes, silver typeable, white, and yellow. UL recognized.
Aluminum — .005″–.125″
Bright, mill, and foil finishes for the panel component.
Anodized aluminum
Black, clear, red, and gold. Sapphire-hard surface with roughly 20-year exterior life.
Overlays and panels are processed up to 24″ x 36″ in size.
How a control panel order runs

Send the panel drawing and your artwork. Our seasoned art department turns a blueprint or artwork into a press-ready proof at no charge, and quotes are free on every order.

We confirm the build. Metal component, overlay substrate, finish, adhesive, cutouts, and any embossed or back-lit areas.
- 3
You approve the proof. Graphics, colors, and the position of every aperture against the hardware you are fitting.
- 4
First article. Worth taking on a new panel, so fit against the actual enclosure and switches is proven before a production run.
- 5
Production and delivery. Most jobs finish 7–10 days after proof approval in an ISO 9001:2015 certified facility, shipping within a 10% over/under standard.
