Custom Industrial Roll Labels & Tags
Supplied on rolls for the line
Custom industrial labels and tags supplied on rolls with specified core, roll direction, and liner for hand or automatic application. Face material, adhesive, overlaminate, and variable data are specified as one construction.
About roll labels
A roll exists to serve the applicator, not the printer. If labels are applied by an automatic or semi-automatic machine, the roll has to match it — core size, roll diameter, wind direction, spacing between labels, and how the liner behaves as it peels. Get those wrong and the line stops, however good the printing is.
We wind to the applicator. Tell us the equipment, or send the specification, and the roll arrives ready to load.

Roll-to-roll printing
Roll work is printed using pigment or metallic resins, and thermal transfer is the common process. Heat and pressure melt a pigmented resin coating and transfer it onto the surface of a vinyl or polyester material.
A digital thermal print head, or a heated magnesium etched die, presses into a polyester film ribbon coated on the label side with a wax, wax-resin, or pure resin pigment. The pigment melts and is pressed into the vinyl or polyester over a driven rubber roller or platen.
Thermal transfer suits indoor and mild outdoor applications. If your labels live in direct sunlight, chemicals, or wash-down for years, say so at quote stage — the construction changes, and the options below cover it.
Variable data
Roll work is where sequential data belongs. Serial numbers, barcodes, QR codes, and asset numbers can be printed in sequence so the labels come off the roll in the order your line needs them.
Special security features are available where a label must show evidence of tampering or removal. For photographic or full-color artwork alongside variable data, digital printing runs the same jobs with a wider color range.
Roll label materials
Vinyl
Conformable and economical. Suits interior labelling and curved surfaces.
Polyester
The durable choice for roll work — dimensionally stable, chemical resistant, and the usual substrate for labels that stay on the machine for its service life.
OverlaminatesA clear film over the printed face for abrasion, UV, or chemical protection. See
laminating.
Adhesives
Selected against the surface the label mounts to, including 3M low-surface-energy options for powder coat and difficult plastics.
Finished format
Rolls wound to your applicator, strips, fan-folded stacks, or individual pieces.
Where a roll label carries a safety or compliance message, the same UL authorized and OSHA-compliant constructions used for sheet labels are available on roll stock. Tell us which standard applies and we will quote a construction that meets it.
Rolls, sheets, or label sets
The right format depends on how the labels reach the machine, not on how they are printed.
Rolls
Best where one label type is applied repeatedly, in volume, often by equipment. This page.
Label setsBest where a machine carries many different decals. They are consolidated into one print or die operation and delivered as a sheet ready to apply. See
label sets.
Individual pieces
Best for low volume, large parts, or anything applied by hand once per unit.
These combine. A high-volume warning label can run on a roll while the rest of the machine’s identification ships as a set.
If the same label is going onto every unit you build, a roll almost always costs less per piece than the equivalent sheet, because the printing runs continuously and the finishing is a single operation.
How a roll label order runs
- 1
Send your artwork and the applicator specification. Our seasoned art department turns artwork into a press-ready proof at no charge, and quotes are free on every order.
- 2
We confirm the wind. Core size, roll diameter, labels per roll, gap, and wind direction, matched to your equipment.
- 3
You approve the proof. Including a data sample if the roll carries sequential numbers or barcodes.
- 4
Production. Most jobs finish 7–10 days after the proof is approved, in an ISO 9001:2015 certified facility. Rush work runs 3–5 business days for an additional fee.
- 5
Delivery or release. Orders ship within a 10% over/under quantity standard, or run against a stocking program so rolls arrive when the line needs them.
