We provide quality products to a variety of industries.

Energy & Utilities Nameplates

Instrument, generation, and field equipment

Identification for meters, gauges, pumps, generation equipment, and mobile field assets, each tied to its own controlled equipment record. UL approved label constructions and etched metal plates for outdoor and service-exposed installations.

U.S. Nameplate Co. has the capability and experience to manufacture products that withstand the most extreme weather conditions. Companies in the energy industry — oil, gas, fluid power, nuclear power, wind energy, and coal — rely on us as their preferred supplier, and utility companies across the globe trust us to manufacture industry-specific labels, nameplates, and signs to their specifications.

Energy and utility equipment we identify

Energy customers manufacture flow meters and accessories, pumps, fuel tank gauges and leak detection systems, generators, and much more. Utility original equipment manufacturers build boom trucks, cranes, lifts, and water and gas meters.

  • Flow meters, gauges, and measurement accessories
  • Pumps, compressors, and fluid power equipment
  • Fuel tank gauges and leak detection systems
  • Generators and power generation equipment
  • Boom trucks, cranes, and aerial lifts
  • Water and gas meters
  • Switchgear, transformers, and distribution equipment

Products commonly used in the utilities industry include control panels, safety labels, nameplates, and metal signs.

Regulated identification

This sector carries more regulated identification than most. A rating plate on a pressure vessel, a meter, or a generator is not decoration — it is the record an inspector, an installer, or a utility technician works from, often years after installation and often outdoors in poor light.

Which sets the standard unusually high on one specific axis: the information has to remain readable for the service life of the asset, because an unreadable rating plate can take equipment out of service regardless of whether the equipment still works.

Service conditions

Permanent outdoor exposure
Meters, switchgear, and distribution equipment live outdoors for decades with no shelter and no cleaning.
Extreme weather
Equipment is specified to work through the weather extremes of the region it serves, and the identification has to match that rating.
Chemical and hydrocarbon contact
Fuel, oil, and process chemicals attack marking that sits on the surface of a plate.
Wide temperature variance
Around generation and fluid power, surface temperatures stress both adhesives and ink films.
Safety-critical content
Arc flash, pressure, and isolation information has to stay legible precisely because it is only read when something is wrong.

Materials and processes

Our labels provide durable indoor and outdoor brand identity, and materials that withstand harsh or extreme temperature variances.

Anodized aluminum
Sapphire-hard surface, insulative and static resistant, roughly 20-year exterior life.
Stainless steel
2B mill finish, the preferred choice for caustic and acidic environments around processing.
Metalphoto®Sub-surface photographic imaging, fire, abrasion, and corrosion resistant, and UL recognized. See Metalphoto processing.
Metal etchingRecessed, color-filled legends with high chemical resistance — the usual specification for permanently outdoor plates. See metal etching.
Brass
Non-sparking and UV coated, which matters in some plant environments.
EmbossingRaised characters that stay legible after decades of exposure. See embossing and forming.

Identification components

Rating and data platesElectrical values, pressures, capacities, and operating limits, frequently carrying an approval mark. See rating plates.
Serial and asset platesTie an asset to its record across a distributed network of equipment. See serial plates.
Control panelsOperator interfaces built for outdoor and plant conditions. See aluminum control panels.
Safety labels and metal signsArc flash, pressure, and isolation identification. See custom safety labels.
Component and valve tagsIdentification for the sub-assemblies inside a larger installation. See data tags.

Trade shows and memberships

Our staff stay connected to the utilities industry by attending annual trade shows and keeping informed of industry trends. We exhibit at and attend CONEXPO-CON/AGG, and attend the PEI Show run by the Petroleum Equipment Institute.

How an energy and utilities order runs

  1. Tell us the equipment and the exposure. Including any approval mark the plate must carry. Our seasoned art department turns a blueprint or artwork into a press-ready proof at no charge.
  2. We recommend the construction. Material and marking method chosen against weather, chemical contact, and required service life.
  3. You approve the proof. Including the placement of approval marks and any variable data.
  4. Production. Most jobs finish 7–10 days after the proof is approved, in an ISO 9001:2015 certified facility. Rush work runs 3–5 business days for an additional fee.
  5. Repeat supply. Parts can run against a stocking program so releases arrive when the line needs them.

Energy and utilities RFQ checklist

  • The equipment, and where the identification mounts
  • Drawings or artwork, with plate sizes and hole positions
  • Any approval mark or standard the plate must carry
  • The exposure: permanent outdoor, chemical, temperature range
  • How long the information must stay readable
  • Whether values change between units, and how they reach us
  • Quantity and your timing, including the date the line actually needs parts

If you do not have all of that yet, send what you have and call 319-895-8804. Customer service is open 8:00 AM–4:30 PM CST Monday through Thursday and 7:00 AM–3:30 PM CST Friday, and you will always reach someone in person.

Related industries and products

Energy and utilities work overlaps with pumps and valves, solar and related industries, and mining. Equipment is usually supplied with rating plates, metal nameplates, and safety labels, often as a kit per unit.
