3M Adhesives for Custom Nameplates & Components
3M converting for OEM assembly
Converted 3M pressure-sensitive adhesives, including VHB, 467MP, 468MP, and 9472LE, die-cut to your geometry and matched to the receiving surface. We convert the adhesive and produce the part it bonds, so the whole bond line is one supplier’s responsibility.
About 3M adhesive converting
3M makes the adhesive. A converter turns it into the part you actually need — cut to shape, in the right width, on the right liner, ready to apply on your line.
As an authorized 3M converter, we transform raw 3M adhesive materials into precision-engineered components tailored to your specification. Our converting facility combines decades of adhesive experience with die-cutting equipment that holds tight tolerances, for industrial, commercial, and OEM applications.
The practical benefit is that adhesive selection stops being your problem. Tell us the two surfaces, the load, and the environment, and we will recommend the product and supply it in the form your assembly needs.
3M product families
3M VHB™ tapes
Very High Bond acrylic foam tapes that replace mechanical fasteners, rivets, and welds. Used for structural bonding, panel attachment, and sign mounting where a permanent, high-strength bond is needed.
3M transfer adhesives
Unsupported adhesive films for laminating, splicing, and bonding dissimilar materials. Available in acrylic and rubber-based formulations for a wide range of substrates.
3M double-coated tapes
Adhesive on both sides of a carrier, giving excellent conformability and handling. Used for mounting, bonding, and attachment across automotive, electronics, and general industrial work.
3M foam tapes
Single and double-coated foam tapes for gasketing, sealing, cushioning, and vibration dampening, in a range of thicknesses and densities.
3M structural adhesives
High-performance epoxy, acrylic, and urethane adhesives for load-bearing bonds in demanding environments including aerospace, transportation, and heavy equipment.
Converting capabilities
Our facility handles the fabrication processes that turn roll stock into a usable part.
Die cutting
Precision flatbed and rotary die cutting for high-volume production of custom adhesive shapes, gaskets, and components with tight tolerances.
Kiss cutting
Cuts through the adhesive layer while leaving the release liner intact, so parts peel off individually during assembly.
Slitting
Converting master rolls into custom-width rolls for tape dispensing, automated assembly lines, and specialized packaging.
Spooling
Custom spooling for automated pick-and-place equipment and high-speed production environments.
LaminatingMulti-layer adhesive lamination combining materials, adhesives, and substrates into single components for complex bonding. See
laminating.
Digital routing carries no tooling charge, so a first article can ship without waiting one to three weeks for a custom steel rule die. Production orders then move to dies for higher throughput and lower unit cost.
Applications
-
Replacing mechanical fasteners — VHB tapes and structural adhesives eliminate screws, rivets, and welds, giving cleaner aesthetics and stress distributed across the bond rather than concentrated at fixing points
-
Panel bonding — attaching metal, plastic, and composite panels in automotive, HVAC, appliance, and architectural applications with permanent, weather-resistant bonds
-
Gasketing and sealing — custom die-cut foam and adhesive gaskets for environmental sealing, dust protection, and moisture barriers in enclosures
-
Electronics assembly — thermally conductive adhesives, EMI shielding tapes, and component mounting for circuit boards, displays, and enclosures
-
Signage and nameplate mounting — high-strength bonding tapes for permanent mounting of nameplates, labels, signs, and overlays
Adhesive selection
3M adhesive products are engineered for performance in demanding industrial environments, and the differences between grades are the whole point of choosing one.
Temperature resistance
Formulated to perform across extreme ranges, from cryogenic conditions to sustained high heat exceeding 300°F, according to grade.
Chemical resistance
Specialized formulations resist solvents, fuels, oils, and cleaning agents while maintaining bond integrity.
Surface energy
Standard acrylics need a high-energy surface. Powder coat, polyolefins, and many plastics are low surface energy and need a 9471PC or 9472LE grade to hold at all.
UL recognition
Many 3M adhesive products carry UL recognition and certifications, meeting the safety and performance standards required in regulated industries.
Engineered consistency
3M invests over $1 billion annually in research and development, which is why an adhesive specified today behaves the same way on next year’s order.
Our team works with the 3M product lines to match the right adhesive to your application, reviewing substrates, environmental conditions, and performance criteria before recommending one.
How an adhesive order runs
- 1
Describe the bond. Both surfaces and their finishes, the load, the temperature range, and what the joint is exposed to. Quotes are free on every order.
- 2
We recommend a 3M product and a format. Tape, transfer film, foam, or structural adhesive — supplied as die-cut parts, slit rolls, or spooled stock.
- 3
Prototype or first article. Digitally cut with no tooling charge and no minimum order, so the fit and the bond are proven first.
- 4
Production. Die cut for volume, in an ISO 9001:2015 certified facility. Rush work runs 3–5 business days for an additional fee.
- 5
Delivery. Orders ship within a 10% over/under quantity standard, with custom packaging and line-side kitting available.
Adhesive RFQ checklist
-
Both surfaces being bonded, with material and finish for each
-
A drawing of the part, or the dimensions and shape you need
-
Temperature range and any chemical exposure
-
The load the bond carries, and whether it is structural
-
Whether you need die-cut parts, slit rolls, or spooled stock
-
